Belgium’s stone is its industry: the Ardennes slate quarries at Vielsalm and Herbeumont roofed half of northern Europe, and Belgian bluestone (petit granit), a fossil-packed dark limestone full of crinoid fragments, faces buildings across the country. Several old slate mines run underground tours. PUBLIC museum mines (Recht, Vielsalm), Belgium.
