High in the Nepalese Himalaya, at over four thousand metres on the flanks of Ganesh Himal, are quartz deposits that produce some of the clearest and most perfectly formed rock crystal in the world, carried down on porters’ backs. Nepali crystal is sold in Kathmandu’s Thamel and prized by collectors worldwide. The workings are remote, high, hand-dug and genuinely hard country.
