The mines at Kongsberg in Norway are the source of some of the finest native silver specimens ever found, curling wires and branching crystals of pure metal that sit in museum cases around the world. Discovered in 1623, the mines ran until 1958. The Sølvgruvene tour takes a mine train deep into the mountain, and the town’s museum holds the great specimens. A collector’s pilgrimage.
