Gold has been mined at Mahd adh Dhahab in Saudi Arabia for three thousand years, with ancient workings, grinding stones and slag heaps on site, and it has long been proposed as a candidate for the biblical mines of King Solomon (the name means “cradle of gold”). It is a modern producing mine today. An ACTIVE industrial site in a country with strict access rules; a heritage pin.
