Maury Mountains moss agate

Moss agate, jasper, petrified wood
Maury Mountains moss agate
R.A. Jensen · Public domain · source

A designated free rockhounding area in the Maury Mountains southeast of Prineville, and the classic Central Oregon moss agate ground: translucent chalcedony with black and green dendrites growing through it like weather inside the stone. Surface hunting works here after rain or a windy winter, which makes it a good first stop with kids. FREE on Ochoco National Forest.
