Moldova’s building stone, a soft yellow limestone called cotelet, was quarried so extensively under the country that the workings became the vast underground galleries now used as wine cellars at Cricova and Milestii Mici, the latter holding the largest wine collection in the world by bottle count. The stone built the whole of old Chisinau. The quarries are now PUBLIC as cellars.
