Fort Mackinac and the island

Mackinac Island (Michigan)

The British built the fort on the bluff in 1780 and it saw fighting in two wars; the island below it has burial grounds, a Revolutionary-era garrison, and a cemetery for soldiers whose names are lost. No cars have been allowed since 1898, so at night, with the horses stabled, it is as quiet as anywhere in America, which is exactly why the ghost walks here work. PUBLIC state park, Mackinac Island.
