The notorious institution for the disabled at Spring City, opened in 1908, whose overcrowding and abuse a 1968 television expose laid bare and finally helped close it in 1987. Many of its grim brick buildings still stand behind the fences, run each autumn as a haunted attraction and fought over by preservationists. A hard, real place about an hour northwest of Philadelphia.
