A real abandoned radar base wrapped in pop-culture conspiracy folklore
At the far tip of Long Island sits Camp Hero, a real Cold War radar station disguised as a fishing village, its giant AN/FPS-35 radar dish still standing over the dunes. Around it grew one of the great campfire conspiracy legends, secret experiments in mind control and time travel, the “Montauk Project,” the seed that later grew into Stranger Things. The base is real and now a state park you can walk; the experiments are pure folklore, told here as exactly that.
