A limestone cave in the middle of Rolater Park with the town’s drinking water running out of it. A rock wall makes a lobby at the mouth and a stair inside lets you look down on the formations, including the big stalagmite they call the Devil’s Stool. The spring feeds a rock pool beside the duck pond, and anyone can fill a jug at the mouth, year round and free. PUBLIC, in the city’s own Rolater Park, for a couple of dollars a head: the cave opens mid April to mid October, daily through high summer and weekends either side of it, and is shut for the winter.
