In 1987 a young woman from Warner named Wendy Sloboda was walking the coulees of the Milk River Ridge and spotted eggshell. What she had found turned out to be Canada’s first dinosaur nesting site: nests, eggs and embryonic bone of Hypacrosaurus stebingeri, a duckbill, including the most complete embryonic dinosaur found in North America. It is still a research site and the ground is protected, so the way in is the guided hike run out of the Devil’s Coulee Dinosaur Heritage Museum in Warner, at set times between May and Labour Day. Book it. Nothing leaves the coulee with you: in Alberta the fossils belong to the province.

Look, do not collect

This ground is protected. Photograph it, record it, leave it where it lies. On US federal land the Paleontological Resources Preservation Act 2009 makes collecting vertebrate fossils an offence, and penalties are real.
