The largest emerald mine in the world sits in the Kafubu field of Zambia and produces a substantial share of the planet’s emeralds, a slightly bluer, often cleaner green than Colombian stones. It is a huge, modern, open-pit operation with the gems recovered from mica schist. An ACTIVE industrial mine (no public access); Zambian emerald is sold at auction and worldwide.
