The Congdon family built this 39-room Jacobean house on the Duluth lakeshore with a mining and timber fortune, finishing it in 1908. In 1977 the heiress Elisabeth Congdon and her night nurse were murdered upstairs, in a case that consumed Minnesota for years. The University of Minnesota runs the house as a museum and, after decades of refusing to discuss it, now speaks about the murders openly on the tour. PUBLIC, Duluth.
