Pripyat and the Chernobyl zone

The most complete abandoned city of the modern age. Pripyat was built for the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear plant and evacuated in a single afternoon in April 1986, leaving apartments, a fairground with its famous ferris wheel, and a swimming pool to the forest, which has taken the streets back and filled them with wildlife. It is real, radioactive, and visitable with licensed guides in normal times. <b>Note:</b> Ukraine is an active war zone; the zone was fought over in 2022. Heritage pin, not a destination now.
