A defensible notch that sheltered outlaw gangs for fifty years
A red sandstone escarpment in the Big Horns with one narrow notch through it, which is the whole point: a handful of men at the gap could hold off any posse, and outlaw gangs used it from the 1860s to about 1910, the Wild Bunch among them. Several gangs kept cabins in the valley behind. It is working ranchland now with public access by a rough road and a hike, and the notch looks exactly as it does in the photographs.
