The ghost town that became the first internet hoax
A near-vanished crossroads in the Pine Barrens, and the seed of one of the internet’s first great hoaxes: a 1980s story of physicists opening a portal to another dimension in the pines. People still drive out looking for the compound. There is a road sign and essentially nothing else, which is somehow the perfect ending.
