Known since the 1830s; runologists read the rune mixture as modern

A twelve-foot slab in an Oklahoma ravine carved with eight characters in the Elder Futhark, known to settlers by the 1830s and possibly earlier. Enthusiasts read it as a Norse land claim; runologists point out the mixture of rune rows is wrong for any real period and read it as a modern carving, most likely by Scandinavian immigrants in the 1800s. It is a state park either way, and the ravine is a genuinely beautiful piece of the Ouachitas.
