Ancient Anishinaabe boulder figures, still an active sacred site
On the flat granite ridges of the Whiteshell, Anishinaabe people laid out boulders into the shapes of snakes, turtles, fish and human figures, some of them tens of metres long. Estimates of their age run to a few thousand years. They are not decoration: this is sacred ground and the sites are still used, with offerings left at them today. Bannock Point is the one open to visitors, on a marked trail with interpretation. Walk the path, do not move a single stone, and treat it as what it is, a place of worship rather than an attraction.
