A settlement rebuilt building by building, where nobody breaks character

East of Elk Island in Lamont County, a whole settlement rebuilt out of buildings moved in from the country around it: farmsteads, a hall, churches, a store, a grain elevator, the works, set to the years between 1899 and 1930 when Ukrainian settlers took up this parkland. The interpretation is first person: the people in those buildings are living in their own year and they answer you from inside it, so asking about something that has not happened yet gets you a blank look and a better conversation. It opened in 1974 and runs from the May long weekend to Labour Day. This is the culture that gave east-central Alberta its onion domes, and there are a lot of them out there once you start looking.
