A real hand-cut sandstone cellar with 150 years of dated carvings
A hand-cut cave in soft Dakota sandstone under Lincoln, Nebraska, enlarged in the 1860s as a brewery cellar and used since as a hideout story, a Prohibition speakeasy, a mushroom farm and a fraternity initiation site. Jesse James is said to have used it, which is said about a great many caves. What is genuinely there is a century and a half of carved names in the walls, some of them dated before 1900. Reopened for guided tours after decades closed, and every tour has to be booked ahead, with steps and uneven ground inside. PRIVATE, tours only.
