Real Scythian royal gold, still being found in the steppe kurgans
The Scythians, the horse nomads who ruled the steppe of Ukraine and southern Russia 2,500 years ago, buried their kings under great earthen mounds, the kurgans, with worked gold laid on and around the body, and archaeologists still open them: the Solokha and Tovsta Mohyla kurgans gave up some of the finest gold work of the ancient world, including the famous royal pectoral. The steppe is dotted with thousands of unexcavated mounds. This is real, documented archaeology, not a dig-it-yourself legend; and Ukraine is an active war zone, so it is a heritage pin.
