In Chautauqua County, the Panama Rocks are a half-mile ridge of ocean-quartz conglomerate cut into crevices, caves and passages you squeeze and climb through, the fossil shore of a 300-million-year-old sea. A private park since 1885, and one of the great scrambles in western New York.
